Get faster results from your limited practice time with the first & only live-learning platform for bass players
Look, I’m just gonna cut straight to the chase as I know you’re busy…
I have a massive announcement to share with you today that has the potential to completely change the way you study the bass — forever.
It’s going to allow you to see exponential progress from the limited time you have to spend in the practice shed.
And best of all, because you’re an SBL Member, I’m sharing this with you BEFORE everyone else in the world.
So let me quickly tell you how we got here…
It all started with a massive REJECTION
As you may know, I never had the chance to go to music college. I nailed my audition, but because I barely scraped through high school and had the worst grades imaginable…
My application to music college was rejected.
I was devastated when I got the news.
Honestly, I spent the next few weeks wondering if I should give up on my dreams of becoming a pro bass player. I even had an interview scheduled at the factory my dad was working at.
After a lot of soul-searching, I decided I wasn’t ready to give up on my musical dreams just yet. I became determined to find my own path to make a living from playing bass.
But I have to admit, it was lonely having to figure out so much on my own.
Sure, I had the chance to study with legends like Gary Willis early in my journey. But I had to fly to Spain to meet with him, so I could only afford to do that a few times a year at most.
The rest of the time, I was stuck figuring everything out by myself.
I was searching for any information that could help me on my journey, but this was 1999, so YouTube didn’t exist yet.
I was struggling to make any real progress until late one night when I finally found the answer to my prayers.
Or so I thought…
A late-night conversation that changed everything.
A friend told me that a few American cities, New York and San Francisco, had schools with adult music programs that anyone could join — no fancy school grades required. All you needed was your instrument and a passion to learn. I definitely had these qualifications!
Every day, they offered multiple classes taught by experienced instructors covering a broad range of skills, genres, and topics: Jazz, Latin, Gospel, arranging, composition, and harmony; they did it all.
And there were dozens of classes each week, so I could check the schedule to see which workshops were the most exciting to me, show up, plug in my bass, and participate live in as many seminars as I wanted.
Best of all, whenever I was struggling with something — which happened a LOT to me early on — I could bring it to one of the “open workshop” sessions, speak directly with the tutor, and I’d be able to get the guidance and encouragement I was desperate for at the time.
It was like an all-you-can-eat buffet combined with a choose-your-own-adventure book for becoming a fantastic bass player and all-around musician.
This was a dream come true for me!
But there was one big problem.
These schools were in the U.S., and I lived in the UK and had zero money.
So, no matter how badly I wanted to enroll, there was just no way I could make it work. Ultimately, I was forced to continue to spend the early part of my bass journey isolated and learning alone.
If music is about connection, why did I feel so lost and alone?
I can’t tell you how many times I was left wondering, "Am I doing this right?" when trying to learn something new.
Or how many times I spent days or even weeks practicing a particular exercise, only to find out I had it all wrong and I had to start over from scratch.
It was grueling.
And even all these years later, I still think about how different — and more fun — my bass journey would have been if I had been able to go to a music school like the ones I just described. I could have had access to the constant guidance I needed in those live workshops every week.
I also think about the hundreds — if not thousands — of other bass players out there who feel the same way right now: sick of that isolated, lost feeling of learning alone.
I decided bass players deserved a better way.
That’s why, about a year ago, I decided to embark on what might be the most ambitious project in SBL history. Because I knew there had to be a way to create an experience for bass players just like I had dreamed about. But one that is within reach for players anywhere in the world thanks to the power of the internet.
And I’m happy to say that now, that dream is finally a reality.
For the first time ever, bass players like you can access dozens of live weekly workshops taught by the world’s top bass instructors.
And you can go from feeling stuck and lonely studying on your own like I did to enjoying the motivation, support, and rapid progress you can only get from a live, interactive workshop experience.
Plus, you can do it all online, right from the comfort of your home.
SBL LiveClass transforms your SBL Membership from a standalone, self-paced learning platform…
Into an interactive bass school that brings you access to an experience that has never before existed for bass players like us, including:

The best instructors. Period.
We’ve carefully selected the best instructors in the world for the faculty here at SBL LiveClass.
Your instructors are working professional bassists and professors from top universities such as Berklee College of Music.
Including… Gary Willis, Danny Mo Morris, Travis Dykes, Steve Jenkins, Ian Trusheim, Daisy Pepper, Ian King, Eric Wills, Katie Thiroux, Todd Johnson, Ian Allison… oh, and Scott Devine (that’s me ;)).
With SBL LiveClass, you’ll get to know these outstanding instructors on a personal level. And they’ll get to know you. And most importantly, they’ll give you specific guidance and instruction to help you make faster progress than you ever thought possible.
Way more than just mentors
Your Interactive Workshops in LiveClass are entirely different from the SBL Mentors program inside the Academy.
With the Academy Mentors program, we offer weekly calls with a rotating list of great bass players. They’re incredibly valuable for asking a quick question. But they don’t provide the level of in-depth, small-group instruction on vital topics you’re getting with LiveClass.
The classes in SBL LiveClass are live, interactive workshops. You’ll have your camera on, your bass in your hands, and you’ll speak directly with these incredible instructors. They’ll be teaching lessons and giving you direct feedback. It’s an entirely new level of learning!
Transform from an emulator into a true musician
LiveClass gives you a wide range of genres, techniques, and styles to develop your versatility and personal sound.
This breadth lets you break free from simply following what other greats do to become a well-rounded artist in your own right.
You’ll get the musical understanding, creativity, and confidence to play solo gigs, jam fluently in live situations, and express yourself as a musician.
Stay motivated in your journey
We all know we do better when we’re accountable to others — like a trainer at the gym. SBL LiveClass gives you exactly that.
You're not just drifting alone. You've got a plan, an instructor, and a group of bass-playing friends encouraging you to succeed. This structure turns your potential into real progress with every session you attend.
Show up and play better
LiveClass gives you the ongoing structured practice sessions all bass players need, but few of us have time for.
It practically automates the process of improving your play by focusing your limited practice time on the right things and giving you the instant feedback you need to keep making progress. And you’ll actually have fun practicing!
All you need to do is simply sign up, show up, and SBL LiveClass will give you rapid leaps in your bass playing, your musicianship, and your understanding of the language of music.
It nearly broke us... but we figured it out for you
So now you understand why we’ve dedicated most of the last year to laying the groundwork for SBL LiveClass. Because we know...
LiveClass is an absolute game-changer for bass players like you.
But you should also know it wasn’t easy. When we first had the idea to create SBL LiveClass, I thought..
And almost immediately, the answer smacked me in the face.
It’s really freaking hard!
You need access to a roster of world-class bass instructors who are not just ‘good’... who are not only ‘world-class’... but also believe with their heart and soul that SBL LiveClass is going to reimagine how someone like you can exponentially increase their skills on the bass. We needed to create a faculty who were ‘all in’.
We also needed the logistics and support staff to host live, real-time workshops with bass students from virtually every country in the world at all times — day or night.
Plus, we had to foster a safe and supportive environment to ensure students get the results they deserve.
This means SBL is the only place with not only the reputation but also the resources to pull something like this off.
So, as I thought about the loneliness and isolation I felt during my own early career…
Along with all the other bass players who must feel the same way today…
I decided that we had to be the ones to make a program like this a reality for you.
So get ready to break free from the isolated and lonely world of traditional online learning…
And to join us and many more of your fellow bass players for dozens of live, weekly workshops in SBL LiveClass!
I don’t want you to spend $5,600.00
Until now, most people could only get live, real-time feedback on their bass playing through private lessons or by joining stand-alone courses from music colleges like Berklee.
But just one 12-week online class from Berklee costs roughly $1,300.00.
That means you’d have to spend over $5,600.00 for year-long access to a single real-time bass instruction course from Berklee.
Yet with SBL LiveClass, you can enjoy year-long access to 15 live classes every week.
And you won’t have to pay $5,600.00 to join us.
Right now, we’re offering a truly incredible deal to SBL Members like you when you join SBL LiveClass.
Here's something very special for you, our Members.
As one of our VIPs, you won’t pay the standard tuition of $799.00 per year that others will pay.
